Rug Cleaning & Restoration for Middle Georgia Homes

Persian, oriental, wool and silk — washed by hand, repaired by hand.

Macon has kept more of its old houses than almost anywhere in the South, and the rugs in them are dealing with plaster dust, heart-pine floors and a hundred years of furniture that never moved. Thirty minutes down the road, rugs are dealing with their third move in six years. Both get collected, washed off site by hand, dried flat, and brought back.

Fine Rug Care

One Rug at a Time, Matched to Its Fibre

A hand-knotted Tabriz and a viscose flatweave off a shelf are not the same object, and they should never meet the same brush. Vegetable dyes bleed. Silk scorches under heat. Viscose loses half its strength the moment it is wet. Cotton foundations shrink if they are pulled out of the wash and dried under tension. Guessing is how rugs get ruined.

So nothing gets cleaned until it has been looked over: fibre content, dye stability, weave construction, backing, previous repairs, and whatever is sitting down in the foundation from the last few Middle Georgia springs. Only then does the rug get a method. That inspection costs nothing, it happens before you commit to anything, and if a rug is not worth the cost of cleaning we will say so.

Fibre-Matched Washing

Wool, silk, cotton, viscose, jute and synthetics each get their own water temperature, pH and agitation.

Repairs & Reweaving

Chewed corners, unravelling fringe, insect grazing and split foundations rebuilt by hand.

Clay, Pollen & Odour

Iron-red clay and pine pollen are flushed out of the foundation, not brushed across the surface of it.

Collection & Delivery

We collect and return across Bibb and Houston counties. You never lift a roll.

What We Do

Our Services

Washing, structural repair, and getting water back out of a rug before it becomes a mould problem.

Rug Cleaning

Full immersion hand-washing for Persian, oriental, wool, silk, cotton and modern synthetic rugs. Dry clay and grit come out before any water is introduced, then the rug is washed, flushed until the water runs clear, and dried flat under moving air.

Repair & Restoration

Fringe replacement, edge binding, insect damage, pet destruction, worn pile and missing corners. Reweaving is done with matched wool at matched knot density, so the repair settles into the field instead of announcing itself.

Repair services

Water Damage Recovery

A supply line behind a washing machine, a roof opened by a storm, or a rug that came out of a move already wet inside its wrapping. Rugs in that state need flushing and controlled drying, not a fan pointed at them. We extract, decontaminate, dry flat, and document the condition throughout.

The Local Problem

What Middle Georgia Does to a Rug

Macon sits on the Fall Line, where the red clay of the Piedmont runs out into the sand of the coastal plain, and the city kept a stock of intact antebellum and Victorian houses that very few places in the South still have. Those two facts shape most of the work here far more than the weather does — along with a base thirty minutes south that moves several thousand households in and out on assignment.

  • Red clay behaves like a pigment. The colour is iron oxide and the particles lodge between the scales of the wool fibre itself. That is why a clay mark vacuums out and then comes back as a rust shadow the next time the rug is damp.
  • Pine pollen will not wet out. Each grain has a waxy outer coat that plain water runs off, so pollen that has sifted to the base of the pile needs its surface broken before it can be flushed. It is also yellow, which is why owners read it as fading.
  • Old houses mean plaster and heart pine. Plaster dust is alkaline and wool is a protein fibre; heart-pine boards give up tannin into a rug's cotton foundation the moment moisture is involved. Both are treatable, and both are made permanent by heat.
  • Rugs here move house often. Tape run onto the pile, a roll made face-inward, a fold instead of a roll, and weeks sealed in shrink wrap. A crease in a foundation is a hinge, and hinges eventually split.
  • A great many rugs came from somewhere else. Pieces bought on an overseas assignment, or inherited out of a family house up the road, and often never washed since. The soil is old, and old soil is bound rather than loose.

Wet rug service

Leaks, Storm Water & Rugs That Arrived Damp

Very few of the soaked rugs we collect around here met a river. They met a supply line behind a washing machine, a water heater at the end of its life, a slow drip under a dishwasher, a condensate line that backed up, or a roof that got opened by a line of storms and then waited its turn on a contractor's list. Water that starts clean almost never stays clean, because of everything it crosses on the way to the rug.

Rugs that arrive wet inside their own wrapping are their own category. A rug rolled in plastic with any moisture still in it, then left in a truck or a storage unit for a few weeks, comes out banded with mildew wherever the roll touched itself. Either way, what matters is what happens next. A wet wool foundation is a growing medium, and a warm room speeds that up. Drying the surface with a fan leaves the contamination at the base of the pile and produces a rug that seems fine for a few weeks and then does not. The rug has to be flushed, treated, and dried flat with the moisture content actually measured — and photographed before any of that, because that is what an insurer will ask for.

  • Wet rugs are run ahead of routine work where the schedule allows
  • Full-immersion decontamination flush, not surface drying
  • Antimicrobial treatment applied front and back
  • Controlled flat drying with moisture readings taken to completion
  • Dye-bleed correction and reweaving of rotted areas
  • Photo documentation for insurance and for move claims
